Mental Health Awareness

I support the efforts of a network of groups that work together towards raising awareness of mental health in our community. This group is called "Mental Health Promotions Committee".

Mental health impacts many people's lives and often leaves families and people broken. I believe raising awareness in the community is the first step in finding answers and solutions for the people who suffer daily.

taking peace to heart

In Spring 2010, I was honored to be featured in the magazine "esperanza".

The article titled, "everyday heroes: taking peace to heart" is written by Michelle Roberts and speaks about my own struggles with depression and anxiety and how I found refuge. To read this article click here.

"esperanza" is a magazine that focuses on hope and how to cope with anxiety and depression.

helping hand

This painting is titled "A Helping Hand".

This painting is of my counselor and me painted several years ago. I painted this for her because I wanted her to know how I felt.

I painted it because I couldn't find the words.

Talking to someone I trusted and seeking help has helped me stay mentally healthy.

Emerging into the light

In May 2008, I helped with the display of the "Framing the Phoenix" art exhibition in London Ontario.

This exhibition is the fourth one of its' kind. The exhibition is meant to celebrate mental health in our community during Mental Health Week.

The art work in the exhibit was all submissions by local artists and sponsored by the Mental Health Promotions Committee.

This painting, "Emerging Into the Light" was a commissioned painting I created for the Mental Health Art Exhibition. It reflects my life now. It shows a phoenix rising from a nest of flames towards a smiling sun that whispers the words, "resilience, serenity, recovery, hope."
